  1. Leena:

Thanks for posting this - one of the great (and criminally overlooked!) heavy-rock albums of the 1970s. I was blown away by the spaced-out majesty of this lp as a teenager in '76, and by its deeply-felt emotion as well....40 years haven't even put a dent in LONE STAR's greatness. If the brilliant opening Beatles cover doesn't get you on your feet, the haunting, crystalline beauty of "Illusions"- which originally closed the vinyl - just about robs the breath out of your lungs. Spectacular album - thank you so much for sharing this with us.

The followup FIRING ON ALL SIX isn't quite as magnificent - you can feel the hot breath of CBS Records on the band's neck, demanding a radio hit - but it's equally worth hearing.

Nobody in this band ever came anywhere near replicating these two albums with their later endeavors (guitarist Paul Chapman came closest with his stint replacing Schenker in UFO), though that's nothing to be ashamed of. It's almost impossible to catch lightning in a bottle this way by design - it has to happen organically, by surprise, or it doesn't happen at all.

    Thanks again!
