  1. WHEN JOE ZAWINUL WORKED WITH CANNONBALL ADDERLEY THE TITLE
TRACK WAS PLAYED @ A SOUNDCHECK.
NAT ADDERLEY SAID 'THAT'S SO BEAUTIFUL, IT
SOUNDS LIKE "IN A SILENT WAY" '. CANNONBALL WANTED TO RECORD IT BUT ZAWINUL HAD PROMISED IT TO MILES DAVIS, THEY HAD KNOWN EACH OTHER SINCE 1959.
AS TOLD IN PAUL TINGEN'S BOOK "MILES BEYOND" ZAWINUL WAS IRRITATED THAT TWO CHORDS HAD BEEN OMITTED WHICH
    CHANGE THE COMPOSITION.
THE 1970 ALBUM "ZAWINUL" IS EXCELLENT WITH A DIFFERENT VERSION OF THE TITLE TRACK.
DAVIS IS THOUGHT OF AS A BRILLIANT ARRANGER BY CHICK COREA.
HE HAD THE ABILITY TO PICK MUSICIANS WHICH SUITED VARIOUS PHASES
    IN HIS CAREER.
SOME PEOPLE HAVE QUESTIONED TEO MACERO'S, A TENOR SAXOPHONIST,
PRODUCTION / EDITING TECHNIQUE(S). IT WORKS FOR ME.
THE ALBUM IS STARTLING, THERE IS NO EXCESS. IT IS PLAYING OF
    THE HIGHEST ORDER
LISTEN TO TONY WILLIAMS' CYMBAL WORK IT'S EXQUISITE.
    THE ORGAN PURRS.
JOHN McLAUGHLIN IS UNDERSTATED & HITS THE SPOT.
IN MY EARLY YEARS OF WORKING FOR A CHAIN OF MUSIC SHOPS, MY
THEN MANAGER TOLD ME TO LISTEN TO IT @ HOME WITH THE LIGHTS
    FOR THE BEST EFFECT.
    WOW! THANKS PETE.

  2. SOMETIME IN THE 1990s I WAS IN CRETE & RECALL HEARING A RECORDING
OF "IN A SILENT WAY" BEING
PLAYED IN THE DISTANCE FROM A BAR--IT WAS A STRIKING MOMENT.
THERE WAS RADIO 3 BROABCAST AROUND 2008 WHICH FEATURED THE SHAKUACHI-INFLUENCED TRUMPET PLAYING OF HARVE HENRICKSEN WHERE HE & THE BAND PLAYED A DISTINCTIVE VERSION OF "IN A SILENT WAY".
